What happens if you press and hold the car remote for 5 seconds? Yes, something amazing happens! And it can have many benefits for our comfort, but also our safety. Since I never compromise on safety in the car, I chose a vehicle equipped with this feature. It was Fabien, my mechanic, who explained all the advantages that this trick can offer. I admit that I use it almost every day during heat waves, and I love it! Here is what happens when you press and hold the car remote for 5 seconds. See:

1. A secret button on your car remote control In the past, cars were opened with a simple key. But over 20 years ago, keys have really evolved. They now resemble short or large keys that are actually miniature remote controls. A small technological marvel… with life-changing features. If you look closely, you’ll see at least three buttons: central locking, central locking and trunk release. But did you know that one of them has a hidden function? I’ll reveal it to you now:

2. It controls the remote opening of the windows. By pressing and holding the “open” button, you activate another function. Instead of unlocking all the doors, the front windows open automatically. To do this, hold down the remote control for at least 5 seconds, and voilà, they open. Magical, right? Don’t have a remote control? Don’t worry, this function also works with a simple key. Just insert it into the lock and turn it clockwise. When it gets stuck, hold a light pressure in that direction for a few seconds. Magical: the windows open by themselves! Good to know:

For some brands you have to turn it counterclockwise. 3. Open the windows automatically for comfort. Of course, this automatic and fast window opening is really beneficial, especially for our comfort. Because what could be worse than getting into a car parked in the scorching sun for hours? And the temperature can reach over 50°C. Yes, it’s over now! When you are just a few meters from your car, press the remote control to activate the window lift. This way, the heat can escape before you arrive. Then just air the car as usual.

4. But also for safety. Car manufacturers have designed this option for our comfort, as we have seen. But not only that. As is often the case, there is also a safety aspect. Opening the windows quickly can become a matter of life and death. Imagine an animal or a child trapped in the car during a heat wave. This immediate opening will be very welcome. And what’s more, it is much faster than opening the door, turning on the ignition and winding down the windows. This way you can immediately stop the vehicle’s “steam room effect” in the scorching sun. But you can also easily catch the trapped animal or person.
